My Grandmother has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The cancer is spreading rather slowly. She was admitted here back in December 2016 and she's still there. My family including my cousins aunts and uncles all takes shifts to ensure someone is there at all times. Now there's good reason for this, the care there is just horrible. So just to give you a few examples, my grandmother rooms with another patient who has difficult moving and seeing. When she calls for the nurse because she's in pain, they tell her that they'll be there immediately, but does not attend to her until an hour later. Since she has a tough time seeing and moving, she request to be fed. When she requested that the nurse ignored here and walked away. When she buzzed the nurse again the nurse came in and removed her food. Unfortunately she has no visitors and therefore we are unable to let her family know about this situation. Because my grandmother has been there for a while she had a few room mates who has came and gone. Another room mate was moaning in pain, so one of my family members requested a nurse to attend to her. The nurse response was like "oh that's just how she is, she's just restless". So my family member decided to just check in herself. The poor lady was shivering and was basically naked. So my family member had to quickly put the blanket over her and let the nurse know. I eventually told that lady's family member but she passed away shortly. A lot of this is occurring during the evening and over night. The overnight nurses just don't care. We even caught them sleeping at their work station. When we requested them to assist my grandmother to the washroom, they said they'll be there in a moment...a few minutes passed so we walked over to their station...they were just sitting there socializing and you bet we let them know how concerning that is. They have poor communication there. They messed up my grandmother's amount of food intake, they reused some of the items when they are supposed to replace. I can go on and on, but long story short, if you planning on admitting a love one there, be prepared to be there for them, because more than half the time, you'll be doing the nurses job because they just don't give a f@c# for a lack of a better word. I've read other reviews, and it can be different in other parts of the hospital. But i'm pretty sure most people doesn't have someone there 24/7 to see the actual care received.

Speaking as an outsider, the palliative care unit at Bridgepoint is the bomb. There are reasons as to why nurses don't attend certain patients. From experience, patients reach a certain point where they stop feeling uncomfortable, therefore it is reasonable not to attend to their needs immediately. A colleague of mine has received complaints of her attitude, though from what I heard, she did her responsibilities as a nurse. Good for those nurses who do more than what the job requires, but they are only setting expectations too high for the rest of us nurses. There is no reason we should get the dirty look from those families that show no gratitude.

The care, professional, attention was exemplary and truly amazing. The food was nutritious, well presented and flavourful. The rooms and premises were very clean. The facilities and programs organized to keep the patients engaged and welcome were commendable. The computer room, TV facility and bright lunch area was a great way to break the monotony of the daily routine if any !!

I feel truly blessed to have access to such excellent level of health care and rehab. This recovery would not have happened without the support, encouragement and facilities of your institution.
