    Please do NOT waste your time and money calling the UK for your Visa status or information. This is a scam in my estimate and no one gets back to you other than a form email asking for additional information.

    its simply waste of time calling them... everything is automated voice recordings.. no one physically picks up your call and you ends up hanging up.

    You require a appointment in order to use the consulate. As far as getting information on a Visa. I used the email service which costs ~£5.80 per email. Calling costs £1.37 per min. At least with the email I was able to send a few emails back and forth to find out the status on a Visa. Takes a while to get an answer (4-5 days) though. Don't expect an answer other than look it up here or we will escalate this etc.
